Admission Requirements
Applicants must complete the following steps:
1. Meet with an interdisciplinary advisor.
Students interested in an undergraduate interdisciplinary studies program must meet with an advisor in the Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies department to discuss their educational goals and begin developing an academic plan. Appointments may be scheduled through the Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies website.
2. Draft an interdisciplinary studies minor plan.
Students must create a draft of their proposed interdisciplinary minor using the Interdisciplinary Studies: Minor- Approval Form. The proposed minor may not duplicate or closely resemble an existing UAF minor and must demonstrate a cohesive body of knowledge and skills. The draft must include:
- A proposed title for the minor
- A list of courses to be included
- Individualized learning outcomes that clearly describe the knowledge and skills the student expects to develop through the selected coursework
3. Share the draft with the interdisciplinary advisor.
The Approval Form is housed in Google Drive. Students must share the form with their interdisciplinary advisor by selecting “Share” and entering the advisor’s email address. When the draft is ready for review, students must email their advisor and copy the Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies department at uaf-interdisciplinary@alaska.edu to request formal review.
4. Committee review and approval.
A committee appointed by the vice provost reviews all proposed interdisciplinary minors. The committee ensures that the minor is cohesive and does not overlap with an existing UAF minor. The committee may require revisions before approval is granted.
5. Final documentation.
Once approved, signed copies of the form are provided to the student and forwarded to the Office of the Registrar for inclusion in the student’s official academic record.
