LE F110      Cultural and Behavioral Strategies for Law Enforcement Officers

Offered As Demand Warrants

Introduces a number of behavioral strategies to facilitate interaction among various cultures found in Alaska. Giving the student a strong concept of police ethics as it relates to everyday performance of police duties. Introduces the problems and strategies for law enforcement officers in their relationships with their marriages and families.

Special Notes: Students must meet basic Police Standards qualifications for police officers.

LE F115      Enforcement Skills for Law Enforcement Officers

Offered As Demand Warrants

Introduction to basic skills necessary to use firearms, operate motor vehicles under emergency conditions and use Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper) spray and Taser effectively. Topics include use of force, judgement in the use of deadly force, physical defense tactics, physical arrest, radar and courtroom testimony, active shooter response, and officer safety.

Preparation to conduct specific investigations into auto theft, domestic violence events, DUI detection, juvenile procedures, care of the emotionally disturbed, report writing and jail procedures.

LE F125      Basic Police Procedures

Introduction to conducting investigations, using approved methods, at any major crime scene. Specific skills used in investigating sexual assaults, homicides, arson, gang-related activity and death investigations. Skills are taught in: interview and interrogation, crime scene physical collection, hostage situations, scene investigation and mapping. Blood-borne pathogens and protective measures are introduced.

LE F205      Criminal Law for Police

Introduction to the more complex issues of criminal law. The Alaska Statutes, constitutional law and court decisions as well as traffic law, search and seizure, rights of defendants and warrant procedures.
